More Threats to your Liberty!

So the Co-Chairs to the State's Judiciary Committee (Andrew McDonald, D-Stamford, and Mike Lawlor, D-East Haven) must have nothing else to do. So they knock their heads together and come up with this great idea of submitting Bill 1098 that not only tramples on the Constitutions First Amendment and, in extension, the Fourteenth Amendment, but it makes me scratch my head in trying to figure out how the laypersons of a Catholic Church could be MORE responsible with the Church's money than the Priest and Diocese!

In THIS day and age!!!

Now there's some rumblings that the Bill was a kind of revenge idea directed toward the Church over their opposition to gay marriage because both of these lads are supposedly gay. That makes it even more of a no-brainer in just trashing this Bill tomorrow without even talking any more about it.

They also have a law that requires people to put a fence around their pools, hot tubs and spas more than 24 inches deep because "this ordinance is needed to keep people, especially children, safe." The state law does allow for "grandfathering" of older pools but Stamford's city law does not AND they're going to start fining owners $200 a DAY for every day that they don't do it.

These laws, combined with my undying hatred of Connecticut's Seat Belt Law, are pretty much the reason why this country is going to Hell-in-a-handbasket. What kills me is that the people themselves WANT these laws so that they can do less in their oh-so-busy lives. Give me a break. What made the United States of America great is that we had the Freedom of Choice, note the word 'had.' If I wanted to take my life in my hands and drive down the street without wearing my seat belt then it was MY choice to do so. My individual right.

Keeping children safe? What happened to the good old days when PARENTS KEPT THEIR CHILDREN SAFE. What, now we have to have LAWS to take the place of parents?
Lawmakers tug at the heartstrings by using lines like, "It's all for the good (safety, etc.) of the people." Yeah, Hitler said that, too. Next thing you know we'll be burning piles of books in the middle of the street while the local Gestapo comes breaking down our front door to see our State-given ID Cards.

Only then will people realize what they've done.

Unfortunately, then will be too late.

Website of interest; this one's pretty good if you're paranoid, like me ;-)

  1. So you don't like the laws to keep our children safe... Parent should be keeping them safe...I agree parents should be keeping their children safe.

But being human we sometimes make mistakes...Just think of what could have happened the day your 3 year old daughter decided to "take a walk". What if you were looking down or to the right...you would not have seen her walking down the street. What if (yes this could have happened but fortunately it didn't)she saw a pool with a cool looking toy in it..the ladder is down and there is no fence...Oh the saddness. Yes dear even you are human, even you have made mistakes.

I agree that adults should be able to make the decision whether or not to wear a seatbelt. But shame on the person who does not wear one. How selfish and self-centered are they. Not caring at all about their family and friends who love them.

But...yes we do need to have a law concerning children and seatbelts/carseats...That child has the right to be as safe as possible when in a vehicle. The child cannot help it if their parent(s) are stupid.
I know you do not agree with me...that's what makes our marriage so interesting!
    Love ya

This is where the Gov't brainwashes people; by telling the people that if they give up their freedoms and liberties it'll make them safer. They especially like using children as it really tugs at people's heartstrings. There is no need for a Seat Belt LAW to keep children safe. Only education.

"But being human we sometimes make mistakes"

That is correct. So, now the Gov't says, by making these ridiculous laws, that if you do make a mistake (because we're human) then we can go to jail. Huh?

"I agree that adults should be able to make the decision whether or not to wear a seatbelt. But shame on the person who does not wear one. How selfish and self-centered are they. Not caring at all about their family and friends who love them."

So, you're agreeing with me that there SHOULDN'T be a seatbelt law. Well, I don't know if I would call that selfish and self-centered if people chose NOT to wear a seatbelt. Careless, yes. Stupid, yes. Selfish and self-centered? I suppose so, seeing the way you're looking at it.
I just don't see it the same way you do.
    Still love ya', though!
